The original product can be made at home using the method of etching brass using ferric chloride. To do this, you will need:
- blank made of sheet brass or bronze;
- vinyl application of the WOT logo;
- ferric chloride solution;
- sealed plastic container with a lid;
- ammonia;
- latex gloves;
- protective glasses.
In addition, it will be necessary to use auxiliary tools that are present in every house:
- soft toothbrush or brush;
- metal tweezers and pliers;
- set of files;
- fine sandpaper;
- scissors for cutting metal;
- mounting tape or masking tape.
Before starting work, it is imperative to wear safety glasses and rubber gloves to prevent chemicals from entering the skin or eye area.
The technology of manufacturing a metal keychain
A mounting film must be applied to the surface of the application. Alternatively, masking tape can be used. Then you need to carefully transfer the application for the souvenir keychain to the blank. Using pliers, it is necessary to bend the free corners of the brass plate at an angle of 90 degrees.
In addition, it is recommended to protect the upper part of the workpiece from etching using the remains of masking tape or tape (you can use nail polish or paint). In the prepared solution of water and ferric chloride, it is necessary to keep the workpiece for 2-3 hours until the desired effect is achieved. Every 15-20 minutes, it is advisable to remove the workpiece from the solution and rinse under running water to remove the formed plaque. Before each immersion of the workpiece in ferric chloride, the solution must be stirred.
After the etching process is over, the excess metal is cut with scissors strictly along the outline of the logo. One corner of the workpiece must be left to drill a hole in it for mounting. Vinyl applique is removed. After this begins the mechanical treatment of the surface and the end of the workpiece. At the next stage, you need to perform patination - artificial aging of the metal.
To do this, you will need to immerse the workpiece in a container with ammonia, close it tightly and put in a warm place for 40 minutes. Finishing is then done with sandpaper. You can polish the product using tooth powder.
