How to make a mini lathe from a conventional electric drill

Sometimes there is a need to urgently grind some small part, but there is no lathe in the workshop. In this case, you can use an alternative option - for example, do-it-yourself mini-lathe from a conventional electric drill.

The bed is made of a piece of channel. The length of the bed can be different (in this case, the author uses a piece of channel 240 mm long, 30 mm high and 50 mm wide). At the ends of the channel, two plugs are welded from a strip 5 mm thick (dimensions 30 * 50 mm).

As legs for the bed of a mini lathe, the author decided to use two blanks from the corner 75 * 75 mm. First you need to cut the shelves of the corner, giving the workpiece the desired shape.

Design Features of a Simple Mini Lathe

The headstock is made of two pieces of corner. The clamp itself is made of a piece of water pipe. A slot was made in it with a grinder, and two nuts were welded along the edges (and in one of them the master drilled a hole).

The tailstock of a mini lathe is welded from a metal strip 5 mm thick and segments of a corner. A nut for fixing is also welded here. An elongated nut is welded to the corner itself.
